Dashwood Arms gig approaches

Live at the Lake cancelled, but a busy week remains for band

Custard Cream will be playing the Dashwood Arms this weekend (September 28th) on a day that was going to be a lot busier – until it turned out that the Live at the Lake festival had some serious organisational flaws.

The Dashwood Arms gig is one that the band – and Mechkov in particular – has been looking forward to, owing to the pub’s ever growing reputation as a live music venue in the High Wycombe area.

The gig was booked as long ago as May this year.

It was going to be a busy day for the CCs, as the band were due to play at the Live at the Lake benefit festival, but it turns out that the organisers had failed to take into account the need for licences and the venue, Horseshoe Lake, has its own council assessment approaching soon, so was being extra vigilant in all private functions using the facilities.

“In a way, it’s something of a relief for me – and more particularly my larynx,” said Mechkov. “Two gigs in a day can take its toll if one isn’t careful – and while I always intend to be careful, when a gig takes of, sometimes enthusiasm can get the better of one’s judgment.”

The band will then be reconvening at The Old Crown on Station Road in Hayes for an unusual Sunday gig that will kick off at 5pm.

"That's a new one on me," said Mechkov. "Five pm on a Sunday? Oh, well... With a band like Custard Cream, I expect we'll be able to blow a few of those lazy Sunday afternoon cobwebs away!"
