CC’s double Duke pays off

Second gig at Wokingham pub highlights new band’s progress

There aren’t too many bands playing in such a specific style (and at such a specific volume) that can pull off two gigs at the same pub in a week, but that’s exactly what Custard Cream achieved last Saturday (June 8th), when the band played its second gig at the Duke’s Head in Wokingham.

This was the CC’s third gig – all three of them in the same town and two in the same pub – and it very clearly highlighted how the band has progressed during its first month ‘on the road’.

“The Hope & Anchor gig was great and the audience loved it,” explained Mechkov, “but we knew there were far too many mistakes. The second gig saw those mistakes largely ironed out, but the odd shape of the pub caused us no end of trouble with our sound.

“The beauty of playing the same pub twice in a week is that we were able to implement the necessary changes to make this third gig the best yet. It was a real treat – added to by the fact that so many friends and relations turned up to see it. We had a real ball.”

Two gigs in a week will become three in two for the band by next Friday (June 14th) with its first showing outside Wokingham (!) in Mechkov’s adopted home town of Marlow – at The Chequers, to be more precise.
